Hair!

I cannot think of a clever name for this post, so I'm going for the obvious. There have been a few stories involving hair around these parts lately, one for each kiddo and they both happened yesterday. I think the chemicals in my brain were especially off for some reason.

I've braided Lauren's hair before. I even tried french braiding the top of it to keep it out of her face at night. I had never tried a full french braid and, for some reason, I decided that yesterday was the day to do it.

I sat Lauren on her changing table, handed her the basket of bows and barrettes to occupy her, and got started. It took five minutes, there was no screaming, and somehow she had enough hair. Voila'!

I was feeling mighty proud of myself! I even managed to talk Tim into getting Red Robin (Yummm!) for dinner that night. Afterwards, we planned on stopping to get both of my guys haircuts. Unfortunately, the line was crazy long and there was no way that the now screaming Lauren was going to let us do that. I had an "ah ha!" moment. I'll just cut his hair at home again! It's summer and who cares if it's short?

Welcome to my salon! (No, I am not strangling him. Although it does look like it.)

I set up my station outside with a stool and the dog clippers. Yes, dog clippers. I'm klassy like that. Everything was going great until I took the guard off to trim around his ears and on his neck. I saw a stray hair sticking out and thought, "Oh, I'll just get that really fast." At that exact moment, Brenden decided to lean his head back to look at me. BBZZZTTT!! Oh no....

Do not stare directly at the patch of blindingly white skin that is now so obvious on the back of my son's head. Doing so may cause damage to your sight and/or cause extreme amounts of embarrassment.

Will I trim his hair again? Most definitely. Did I learn my lesson about stray hairs and no guard? You betcha!

Will he hate me forever?

Tim has often told me that I need to learn how to cut hair to save money. I have often told him he's crazy. However, I decided to try it once and if it was awful I'd never do it again. Of course I had to try right before we went to see Santa, right before all the Christmas pictures. No...I do not plan well.

All I had were our dog clippers, which Tim assured me would work just fine. After bribing Brenden with ice cream ("CHOCOLATE ice cream, mommy"), setting up a chair and a sheet to catch the hair, and turning on a movie, I set to work.

Do you think he'll hate me forever?

Not terrible, but not great.

First Hair Cut

We finally did it...Brenden had his first hair cut! I was ready to have it done a long time ago, but Tim was a little reluctant. (Bald baby, anyone?) But last week I showed Tim a couple of pictures where Brenden was using my hair clippy and I guess that decided it for him. It could have also been the fact that his hair was threatening to get into his eyes, too.

Snip, snip!

What are you doing up there?

This thing is cool! Can I take it?

So Saturday we went to Super Cuts for both my guys to get hair cuts. We weren't too worried about Brenden being afraid of the noise, we were only worried he wouldn't sit still long enough. He wandered around the store while Tim had his hair cut first, and then it was his turn. He sat on his dad's lap and at first was interested in the spray bottle. That lasted all of 2 seconds. He then started squirming like a madman. I had to put his gloves on him, which somehow distracted him for a little while, and then we let him push the buttons on the camera. If I had been smarter I would have handed him my phone. All in all it wasn't that bad. He didn't mind the lady cutting his hair as long as he could push the buttons. I believe she cut off about 4 inches. Being the strange parent that I am, I snipped a couple of curls to keep in his baby book. I know I wanted his hair cut, but now I miss his curls! I guess now his hair has the chance to grow out at the same length and may look a little better. He always had one side of his head that was longer. So funny!

Here are the before and after pictures. Our little man is growing up!
